The Kinross Extension & Acceleration (KEA) Program caters to the needs of talented and gifted students. Earning a position in the program ensures students are grouped with like-minded students and taught a specialised program that will prepare them for Yrs 11, 12 and University.
The program provides students with:
- Extension – exposing students to a higher level of content and concepts, offering students opportunities to expand their skills and knowledge.
- Acceleration – through covering the curriculum at a faster rate and allowing time to investigate integrated activities and delve deeper into concepts.
Your child has the opportunity to earn a position in the KEA class in one or both of:
- Humanities – English and Society & Environment
- Sciences – Maths & Science
The Curriculum is differentiated for students allowing for integration between subjects, flexible timetabling to cater for specialised programs including incursions, excursions and extra-curricular activities. Students will learn through a wider range of practical activities, complex problem solving, model making, inquiry and fieldwork, all of which will contribute to enhancing their abilities to excel in further study.
Students will learn skills to problem solve, become effective planners and learners, improve study skills, work collaboratively and develop their ability to become more in-depth lateral thinkers.
The extra-curricular activities offered in the program include competitions at state, national and international level.
If students excel in any of the learning areas they will receive accolades from the College, as well as nomination to a range of award agencies like the prestigious BHP Billiton Science & Engineering Awards & The Dorothea MacKellar Poetry Awards.
Our KEA program provides the opportunity to participate in a plethora of activities and programs that will extend students socially, emotionally and physically and allow them to Believe Act Achieve.
