Mathematics

Mathematics

The Mathematics Department at Kinross College combines an explicit teaching model whilst fostering critical thinking with an investigative approach to learning.

Mathematics provides students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to pose and solve problems across a range of contexts including personal, community and future employment.

Students explore the concepts of:

  • number and algebra
  • measurement and geometry
  • probability and statistics.

They are encouraged to become observant, interpret results and to describe and understand their social and physical world as active citizens.

Mathematics staff seek to promote inquiring minds and foster an appreciation of the benefits of studying mathematics. Students are encouraged to work independently and collaboratively in an environment that encourages the maximising of each individual’s potential.

The mathematics staff at Kinross College greatly value teacher student relationships and provide a challenging yet supportive approach to learning in the Essentials, Standard and KEA pathways.
