At Kinross College, we focus on the health and wellbeing of our students. Below are links to agencies, external to the College and the Department of Education that may provide support over a range of topics that our community may find useful.

Headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12 – 25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. Headspace is a free service covering four main areas: mental health, physical health, work/study support and alcohol/drug services.

Helping Minds support young people, adults and families that are affected by mental illness. They have a professional team of staff and dedicated volunteers who provide quality, confidential support and services to young people, adults and families who are caring for someone with a mental illness or individuals who are affected by a mental illness.

 

MENTAL HEALTH EMERGENCY RESPONSE LINE

For anyone involved in a mental health emergency in the community – including individuals, families/carers, member of the general public or health professionals. The MHERL is provided by the East Metropolitan Health Service and provide assessment, specialist intervention and support for people experiencing a mental health emergency and if required, referral to a local mental health service.

Mindspot is a free telephone and online service for people with stress, worry, anxiety, low mood or depression. It provides online assessment and treatment for anxiety and depression. MindSpot is not an emergency or instant response service. Hours of operation are 8am-8pm (Mon-Fri), 8am-6pm (Sat) AEST.

Youth Focus is a community-based organisation with expertise in providing practical and effective support for young people 12 to 25yrs of age and their families, who are showing early signs associated with suicide and deliberate self-harm. Frontline services and education programs not only to reduce symptoms associated with suicide, depression, anxiety and self-harm, but also to build long-term mental wellbeing and help young people reach their full potential. Students, families and schools can refer for services including: counselling, family therapy, peer support weekends, mentoring, and life skills and educational training.

Anglicare provide support, counselling and advocacy for people struggling with poverty, domestic violence, homelessness, grief, mental wellness and other forms of crisis or trauma.

Crisis Care is a telephone information and counselling service for people in crisis needing urgent help. Crisis Care can be accessed through the translating and interpreting service on 13 14 50. Telephone Crisis Care when:
• You need someone to help sort out a serious problem.
• You are concerned about the wellbeing of a child.
• You are escaping domestic violence and need help.
• You are homeless.
Hours of operation are 24 hours, 7 days a week.

The Men’s Domestic Violence Helpline is a state wide 24 hour service. This service provides counselling for men who are concerned about their violent and abusive behaviours. The service can provide telephone counselling, information and referral to ongoing face to face services if required. This service can provide information about accessing legal advice, accommodation and other support services for people who have been served with a violence restraining order. Information and support is also available for men who have experienced family and domestic violence. A telephone based interpreting service is available if required.

Mercy Reconnect is an outreach support service providing assistance to young people (12 – 18 years) who are having difficulties staying at home, or who have recently become homeless because of family issues. Reconnect is a free and confidential service working with young people, their parents/guardians and families. The referral line is open Monday – Friday 9.00am – 4.00pm.

NGALA PARENTING LINE

The Ngala Parenting Line offers phone advice and support to parents and carers of children up to 18 years old. This is a free call-back service. Their team of qualified and friendly staff are on hand to offer reassurance and encouragement along the parenting journey. Hours of operation are Monday to Sunday 8am to 8pm.

The Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC) is located in Perth and provides a range of free services to people affected by sexual violence. This includes people affected by a recent sexual assault, past sexual assault, current sexual abuse and past sexual abuse. A team of qualified and experienced doctors and counsellors provide care, support and professional services at the centre. There are no restrictions on how long ago the sexual violence occurred.

The Butterfly Foundation provides support for anyone affected by eating disorders and negative body image. They represent all people affected by eating disorders and negative body image – a person with the illness, their family and their friends.
