Music Program

Kinross College run a contemporary music program which consists of the following opportunities for students:

Music Academy (specialist class – Years 7 to 10) – Students apply for this program and are selected through an audition process
Senior School General and ATAR Music Courses
Instrumental program – On offer to all students. Compulsory element for Music Academy students. Two options offered through:
- Instrumental Music School Services
Ensembles – compulsory for all IMMS music students
Vocal Ensemble
Guitar Ensemble
Contemporary Band

Music Academy Expression of Interest for Incoming Students – 2027

Please complete and submit the form below PRIOR to auditions.

Once you have submitted your application, you will be given a specific timeslot prior to the audition. (Auditions will run for approximately 10 minutes). Students who are unable to attend will have an option to submit a video audition. For further details, please contact the Music Coordinator.

Audition Requirements

The audition will consist of the following:

Perform a prepared piece of music on your chosen instrument (2-3 minutes long). Vocalists may use a backing track or have an accompanist on an instrument to perform with but is not necessary.
General music knowledge questions covering; pitch (note names), dynamics (p, mp, mf, f, ff) and rhythms.
Aural listening test; students will be asked to listen and respond to basic pitch recognition and rhythmic patterns (clapping and playing patterns back).

Instruments

Students will be required to bring their own instruments. Electric and bass guitarists will be provided with a lead (cable) and amp. There will also be a drum kit available for students auditioning on drums.

MUSIC AUDITIONS

We are excited to announce that applications for our Music Academy are now open.

Auditions for the Music Academy are scheduled to take place on Wednesday 27 May 2026 between 3:00pm – 5:15pm (each audition will last 10 minutes). The audition will consist of a general music aptitude assessment and a prepared song performance on chosen instrument or vocals.

Instrumental Music School Services

Only to be completed if choosing IMSS in 2026

IMSS provides instrumental music services to more than 450 public primary and secondary schools, reaching more than 15,000 students from Years 3 to 12. In addition to weekly small group instrumental lessons, students have opportunities to participate in enrichment music activities which combine students working collaboratively across year levels and with students from other schools.
